New York Tech Meetup May Wrap-Up

I went to the New York Tech Meetup last night. I know, already ancient history, but anyway here's a quick wrap-up of a couple of the projects still stuck in my head this morning.

Come At Me Bro

There were a couple of really quick turnaround projects this week. This first one, Come At Me Bro, smashes together Twitter and Hunch and shows you who you should fight nearby. Essentially it analyzes things that you dislike and finds nearby people who like those things. It got a ton of laughs, because it picked people who were actually there in the crowd.

Bridg.Me

Bridg.Me is a conference call service that does all the work for you. We've all spent time waiting on the line for meetings to get started because somebody is late or forgot. (I've been on both sides of that equation.) Bridg.Me allows you to set up conference calls that actually call you, instead, so you're never late for a call again.

This one was another weekend project, which is amazing. It's built on top of Twilio, which really seems to be kicking ass these days. Very cool.

Don't Eat At

This was presented last month, but it's another quick weekend project so I'm not too far off topic. Don't Eat At looks at restaurant inspections (in NYC) and follows your FourSquare checkins to make sure you aren't eating someplace you might not want to. The service texts you after you check in to tell you that you might want to reconsider.

Uber

Uber is everyone's private driver. It's hailing a car service made super easy. You tap to set up a pickup, it reads off your GPS, hooks you up with a driver and you're on your way. They also showed us how the app works on the driver's side. Surprisingly it seemed even easier. Cool new service, just now available in New York.
